Line Beauchamp, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, arrived in Paris on March 2 for two days of work sessions with French authorities in the areas of the environment and sustainable development.
During her mission to Paris, Minister Beauchamp will meet with her French counterpart, Jean-Louis Borloo, Minister of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Seas, in order to discuss possible efforts by Québec and France to combat climate change.
She will also take part in a plenary session held by The Climate Group, leading up to the Mexico City climate change conference. The session will focus on potential efforts in this area by federated states and regional governments.
In addition, the mission to Paris will be a chance for the Minister to discuss the International Year of Biodiversity with Bernard Delay, Chair of the Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Biodiversité (FRB).
Meetings at UNESCO
Minister Beauchamp will visit the headquarters of the Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO. Accompanied by the Government of Québec’s representative within the Permanent Delegation, she will take part in a work meeting with Walter Erdelen, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, and Natarajan Ishwaran, Director of UNESCO’s Ecological and Earth Sciences Division. She will also meet with André Bachand, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Canada to UNESCO.
