The 13th International Winter Road Congress, attended by delegates from over 50 countries, was an opportunity for Québec to highlight its expertise in sustainable winter road service. Held in Québec City, the congress wrapped up on February 11.
The event was held by the World Road Association (PIARC) under the theme “Sustainable Winter Service for Road Users.” Some 1,500 participants focused on issues like sustainable development, climate change, road safety and winter information management.
In addition to technical sessions, the congress included talks by political decision-makers. The delegates thus had a chance to find out more about the approaches adopted by governments and municipalities in Québec, Canada and other countries in order to answer concerns about transportation system safety and efficiency under winter conditions.
The event also included an international exhibition, with booths manned by Québec, Canada, Nordic countries, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Spain, the United States and Andorra.
The Government of Québec’s Ministère des Transports (MTQ) hosted this year’s edition of PIARC’s International Winter Road Congress. PIARC membership includes governments, municipalities, agencies and universities in 142 countries. The President of PIARC is Anne-Marie Leclerc, Assistant Deputy Minister at the MTQ.
