Antiviral drugs represent the first line of defense in the fight against new viral diseases, providing crucial protection until a vaccine becomes available. However, this sector of medical research, although very large, is of little commercial interest - and thus largely unattractive - to pharmaceutical companies. With the notable exceptions of HIV and Hepatitis ‘C’, antiviral research continues to be one of the most neglected areas of medical research.
The Foundation on Antivirals (FAV)* is affiliated with the International Consortium on Anti-Virals (ICAV), a not-for-profit drug development organization dedicated to discovering new therapies and making them available to all, regardless of national boundaries, geopolitical or economic constraints. Her primary objective is to re-direct biomedical innovation towardsthe most pressing humanitarian needs by supporting the work of the International Consortium on Anti-Virals (ICAV ) and its collaborative scientific network.
The Foundation enjoys the active support of former Heads of State and its international Board of Directors. Our members and donors share similar values of excellence, humanism, generosity and collaboration.
