Twenty prêt-a-porter manufacturers from Québec participated in the highly anticipated Montréal Collections fashion show at AmericasMart Atlanta on October 17. More than 500 agents and buyers from specialty apparel boutiques and retail chains in the Southern United States attended the show highlighting spring collections for 2010. Montréal Collections, which takes place annually, is organized by the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation, in collaboration with the Québec Government Office in Atlanta.
The Québec contingent included, among others, internationally renowned designer Simon Chang from Montréal, who was the guest designer for the evening. Mr. Chang recently received the Order of Canada, in recognition of his contribution to the fashion industry and for his philanthropic initiatives.
The following Québec manufacturers participated in Montréal Collections 2009: Alison Sheri, Anne-Marie Chagnon, Ardoise, Chagall, Conrad C, Daymor Couture, Due Fratelli, Frank Lyman Design, Genux Lana Lee, Leo Danal, Libra, Michael Tyler Collections, Nueva, Puli, Samuel Dong, Simon Chang and Tribal. We should mention that over 60 fashion houses from Québec are represented on a permanent basis at Atlanta Apparel Mart, which is part of AmericasMart Atlanta, a complex of over 2000 showrooms dedicated to wholesale of consumer goods.
Montréal ranks second in North America for fashion production, behind Los Angeles. Québec’s fashion is known for its original styling, the expertise and flexibility of the designers and their workforce, and its high-quality garments.
