The 2009 Festival Internacional Cervantino will be held from October 14 to November 1 in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico. Under the theme Hola Québec, around twenty Québec companies and artists will present some forty shows in addition to film and visual art presentations. Participants from Québec include Montréal’s symphony orchestra, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, which will open the Festival, Ex Machina, which will present The Andersen Project, O Vertigo, which will perform La Chambre Blanche and Cirque Éloize, which will perform its Nebbia show. The film component will thrill film lovers because seven films will be shown, including Continental, A Film without Guns by Stéphane Lafleur and The Decline of the American Empire by Denys Arcand.
The Québec government is providing financial support to the artists who are featured in this festival, which is recognized as the largest arts festival in Latin America. Cervantino is also one of the largest multidisciplinary festivals in the world. This event will host more than 2,000 artists from some thirty countries.
“Today, the spotlight placed on Québec talent by this prestigious festival reflects the close ties and excellent relations that Québec has with the State of Guanajuato and Mexico. We have been building alliances and conducting cooperative activities for many years based on our joint interests, and culture is a key sector” declared Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie.
