The Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, is pleased that the National Assembly has passed the Act respecting the creation of the Office Québec-Monde pour la jeunesse. The office will be mandated to develop relations between young people in Québec and their counterparts in territories and countries not covered by one of the three existing youth offices: the Office franco-québécois pour la jeunesse, the Office Québec/Wallonie-Bruxelles pour la jeunesse and the Office Québec-Amériques pour la jeunesse.
“Québec’s international influence and the relations it forges abroad require actions on many fronts,” said Minister Arcand. “That is why it is important for our young people to broaden their knowledge about others. Québec society is exceptionally open to the world and enriching experiences abroad are having greater appeal for its young people. We are happy to provide them with an additional tool to help build a better society. These young people are not only concrete examples of our commitment abroad, they are also extraordinary international ambassadors of Québec society,” he noted.
As with the other youth offices, the mission of the Office Québec-Monde will be to promote internships abroad that provide young people from Québec professional development, study opportunities and awareness-building tours. The office will thus increase young people’s mobility options abroad while enabling Québec to strengthen its relations, especially in Europe and Asia. As an example, the creation of this new office now enables Québec to officially move forward in its process of establishing closer ties between Québec’s youth offices and the Assembly of European Regions (AER), which is composed of 270 regions in 33 countries together with 13 interregional organizations.
The services provided by the four youth offices are grouped together in a one-stop international mobility organization, Québec’s International Youth Offices (LOJIQ), created by the Québec government and confirmed by its Youth Action Strategy and International Policy.
