The Québec Government Office in Boston is proud to facilitate the trade mission of Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick, to Montréal, Québec on October 10-11, 2013.
This trade mission, aims at developping partnerships between institutions and compagnies from Quebec and Massachussetts. Governor Patrick will also be the keynote speaker at the CORIM on October 11, in Montreal, where he will highlight the QC-MA partnership for innovation.
''We are thrilled to welcome Governor Patrick back in Québec following his participation to the 37th Annual Conference of New England Governors & Eastern Canadian Premiers in September. With a yearly bilateral trade of over $2 billion, Quebec and Massachusetts are strong partners with many complementarities. The Québec Government is looking forward to fostering further collaborations with Massachusetts institutions in the clean technologies, ICT and life sciences sectors. A great example of such cross border collaboration is the recent agreement between the Québec Consortium for Drug Discovery and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center to develop joint research projects''. Jean Saintonge, Quebec delegate in Boston on Deval's trip.
Massachusetts is Québec’s 12th trading partner in the US. The bilateral trade between the two regions reached 2,1 G$ in 2011. Fish and seafood, paper, turbojet engines and silver are the leading trade sector shared by Québec and Massachusetts. There are a number of Massachusetts subsidiaries in Québec: Iron Mountain, Avid Technology, and Charles River Laboratories Intl. Likewise, a number of Québec companies are also established in Massachusetts. It is the case of CGI, Aldo and Canam.
Québec and Massachusetts are also partners in the life sciences industry. Québec Minister of Finance and the Economy Nicolas Marceau recently announced at the International Congress of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO 2013) that Québec is participating in the International Collaborative Industrial Program (ICIP) of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Centre (MLSC).
