Québec participated in the 4th Annual Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum, which was held from January 19 to 21 in New York City. The event brought together key actors in the major infrastructure projects sector.
The fourth Climate Leaders' Summit, organized by the Climate Group, was being held on December 6-7 in Cancun, Mexico in conjunction with the UN Climate Change Conference (Conference of the Parties 16/COP16). At the end of his visit to the Climate Leaders Summit, the Premier of Québec, Jean Charest, left Cancun with the conviction that the actions of the federated states are putting significant pressure on the international negotiations surrounding the fight against climate change.

The 63rd Annual Meeting & Convention of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), which concluded on October the 23rd, was the opportunity once again to highlight Québec’s know-how. Fifteen Québec-based companies, six of which were exhibitors at the Québec booth, put forward their latest products and technologies. The Québec Aerospace Association and Invest Québec, both partners of the MDEIE and the Quebec Government Office in Atlanta on this project, were also represented at the booth. Among the highlights of the show was the announcement by Bombardier that it is adding two new jets, the Global 7000 and Global 8000, to its flagship Global family of business aircraft.

Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, the Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, contributed to this commemorative issue, which pays tribute to the 20th anniversary of Canada’s permanent membership in the Organization of American States (OAS).
Québec will host the first French Language World Form in 2012. Québec Premier Jean Charest made the announcement at the close of the Montreux Summit. The decision illustrates the confidence that Secretary General Abdou Diouf and the heads of member states and governments of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) have in Québec.
For its’ 10th anniversary, Twenty prêt-a-porter manufacturers from Québec participated in the highly anticipated Montréal Collections fashion show at AmericasMart on October 15th. More than 600 reps and buyers from specialty apparel boutiques and retail chains in the Southern United States attended the show highlighting spring collections for 2011.
Québec Premier Jean Charest spoke at the opening ceremony for Climate Week NYC, which was held in New York City on September 20. He took the opportunity to promote Québec’s leadership in the fight against climate change and to focus attention on the environment and green technology industry’s growing role in Québec. Mr. Charest was accompanied by Pierre Arcand, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks.
On mission to Italy until October 19, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie Monique Gagnon-Tremblay will travel to L’Aquila, Rome and Milan where she will hold a series of meetings to strengthen institutional and economic ties between Québec and Italy. She will also go to the Vatican to represent the Québec government at the canonization ceremony of Brother André.
A UNESCO Chair of Marine Sciences was inaugurated on October 1 at the University of Québec at Rimouski (UQAR. Focusing on the integrated analysis of marine systems, the Chair will draw on specialists in the areas of oceanography and marine resource management.
Québec City will be co-hosting the 2016 Universal Forum of Cultures together with Amman, Jordan. For the very first time, the Universal Forum of Cultures Foundation, headed by Barcelona mayor Jordi Hereu, selected two cities to host this international event.
Upon her return from the fifth Conference of Heads of Government of Partner Regions, held in Cape Town, South Africa, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, noted that the potential benefits associated with the tightening of Québec’s links with regional governments have never been greater.
