The company from Boucherville – which already owns 28 distribution centers in the United States and 12 in Canada - has entered into an agreement with Parts Depot, Inc. to purchase part of its assets in Florida. The terms of the acquisition were not made public. Once the transaction completed, Uni-Select will operate 39 new points of sale under its Auto-Plus brand and five new distribution centers in those locations where leases have been acquired.

Bombardier Transportation on July 23 announced it has received an order from the Florida Department of Transportation for the supply of 14 BOMBARDIER BiLevel rail cars for the central Florida SunRail commuter rail project to provide service to the Orlando area. This 14-car order brings the total number of North American BiLevel car customers to 14 with nearly 1,000 cars already in operation across the United States and Canada. Miami, Dallas/Forth Worth, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Franciso, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto and Montréal already count Bombardier BiLevel commuter rail cars in their public transit systems.
Cirque Éloize, on July 26 premiered its new show, iD, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Arts– Ziff Ballet Opera House in Miami to a rapt audience on the edge of their seats at the spectacular acrobatics and the creativity of choreography and stage sets. The Québec National Day reception held in Atlanta on June 23 was a great success. It was also the last Québec National Day celebration hosted by Ms. Ginette Chenard, the current Québec Government Delegate in the Southern United States. Ms. Chenard will leave her post to return to Québec on August 15. She was appointed as head of the Québec Government Delegation in Atlanta in October 2006. The new Fulbright Canada Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Award (STEM), is a scholarship program that may be of interest to U.S. graduate students (Master’s and Ph. D. candidates). The STEM grant is a three-year award valued at some $120,000 (tuition, fees, and an annual stipend of $20,000) that allows recipients to pursue their studies in cutting-edge science & technology fields at top Canadian research universities, including McGill and the University of Montréal. The new program is the counterpart to Fulbright’s International Science and Technology award for foreign students enrolling in a U.S. University.
Industries Lassonde, maker of the Oasis and Rougement juice labels, has announced it will acquire New Jersey-based Clement Pappas & Company, bringing Lassonde’s annual sales close to $1 billion. Once the deal is concluded, 71% of the company will be owned by Industries Lassonde, 19% by the family Pappas and 10% by the Lassonde family.

The annual NASCO Board of Directors meeting and Conference were held Kansas City, MO, on May 17 - 18. NASCO, with members from Canada, the United States and Mexico, is the only trade corridor that is truly North American in scope.
