Québec is proud to support Québec studies and research on Québec in the United States through its university grant program.

The goal of the university grant program is to stimulate academic dialogue between Québec and the United States, and foster better knowledge and understanding of Québec in the U.S.

The Grant Programs

The goal of the university grant program is to stimulate academic dialogue between Québec and the United States, and foster better knowledge and understanding of Québec in the U.S.

The program supports university activities that focus on Québec or include a substantial comparison with Québec, primarily in the humanities and social sciences.

Issues related to Québec government priorities:

  • Bilateral relations between Québec and the United States
  • Economy and bilateral trade (interdependence, supply chains, etc.)
  • The role of federated states in the fight against climate change
  • Environmental, energy and natural resource issues
  • Sustainable transportation issues (electric vehicules)
  • Nordic development (Plan Nord) and the Maritime Strategy
  • Border security issues
  • Québec’s culture and identity
  • Québec’s international relations and diplomacy

The call for applications for the projets in the competitive category is currently closed. New terms and conditions for this category will be unveiled in the coming months.

Grants for Professors and Researchers

Please note that the call for applications in this grant program will take place from October 17th to December 16th, 2016.

These grants are aimed at encouraging research on Québec at U.S. universities, in the humanities and social sciences. The main purpose of this research will be to promote better understanding of Québec and/or its relations with the United States.

Eligibility

This section of the program is intended for:

  • faculty members at accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities
  • researchers at U.S. research institutions
  • recent Ph.D. recipients who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States are also eligible to apply.

Non-competitive grants

We are currently accepting applications for projects in the non-competitive category. The competition will remain open until all funds have been awarded.

Support program for the development of courses on Québec

This grant is aimed at encouraging the creation or redefinition of courses on Québec at U.S. universities. The courses must focus on Québec from the viewpoint of:

  • politics
  • the economy
  • international relations
  • the environment
  • the French language
  • culture
  • literature

They may include the organization of academic activities such as visits, lectures and symposiums.

This grant encourages the development of didactic material on Québec that can be provided within the framework of the courses and/or online.

Eligibility

This section of the program is intended for:

  • full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members at accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities.

Conference and Guest Speaker Program

This grant is aimed at encouraging the organization of conferences on themes related to Québec and/or its relations with the United States, or the welcoming of an expert on Québec within the framework of a university course or a conference. The goal is to heighten the awareness of the academic community, students or the general public of topical issues involving Québec and the United States.

Eligibility

This section of the program is intended for:

  • accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities
  • research institutes and other research institutions that organize conferences that promote better understanding of contemporary world issues.

Support program for the acquisition of material on Québec

This grant enables university libraries, research institutes and specialized study centres to expand their collections of books, music recordings, films and other didactic material on Québec. The material may be purchased in electronic format.

The assistance may also be used for annual subscriptions to Québec periodicals, newspapers or newsmagazines, in hard-copy or electronic format. All of this material must be used to support research, studies or teaching with respect to Québec.

Eligibility

This section of the program is intended for accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities.

The material must be purchased from a Québec publisher or bookstore (by mail or online).
